For many years I ran the University Bach Consort and we used to perform a couple of concerts a year - particular personal highlights were our performances of Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, Bach’s St John Passion and the cycle of three passions by Carl Heinrich Graun which marked the final concerts by the group.
Towards the end of 2018, various friends spoke very fondly of the Consort and suggested reforming. I sounded out a few singers and, lo and behold, our little ensemble was born. We started rehearsing early in 2019 with the target of doing our first concert at the start of May
Some of us were fortunate enough to go to New York in April and we managed to fit in a visit to Trinity on Wall Street to hear their Bach + Oneseries. This was a wonderful concert and the format of Bach plus a contemporary inspired us to do something similar, with the addition of a short organ interlude to demonstrate the new organ in the church.
